Runway Closure at Pangborn Memorial Airport for Rehabilitation Project PR from CDRPA

Pangborn Memorial Airport will temporarily close its runway for a major rehabilitation project beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, with reopening scheduled for 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025. The closure is necessary to complete critical improvements that will preserve and protect this key regional asset.
While the runway will be closed to all fixed-wing aircraft, helicopter operations will continue as normal throughout the duration of the project.
General Aviation (GA) pilots are encouraged to utilize nearby alternative airports during the closure, including Lake Chelan (S10), Waterville (2S5), Mansfield (8W3), Ephrata (EPH), and Quincy Municipal (80T) airports.
The runway rehabilitation project includes:
• Full depth milling and replacement of existing runway asphalt
• New storm drainage system
• Airfield signage improvements
• New four-unit PAPI on Runway 30 end
• New rotating beacon
• Replacement of taxiway edge lights with new LED lights
“We understand this closure may present some short-term challenges for our community,” said Jim Huffman, Board President of the Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority. “However, this project represents a major investment in the future of Pangborn Memorial Airport. By taking this step now, we’re ensuring the long-term safety, reliability, and operational excellence of our runway for years to come.”
The total project cost is approximately $20 million, with 95% funded by the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and the remaining portion supported by local matching funds from the Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority.
