The Port of Chelan County Commission approved a lease at its March 20 Commission Meeting with the Pybus Market Charitable Foundation to establish a technology business incubator at the Pybus Public Market. The Port entered into a 5-year lease with a 5-year option for the second floor of the Pybus Annex, totaling approximately 1,950 square feet. Renovation of this space is underway as part of the Market’s Annex renovation and should be finished by July 2018. “We are very excited to again partner with the Pybus Public Market to launch this business incubator,” stated Port Commissioner JC Baldwin.
Business incubators reduce start-up costs and the risk of business failures. The incubator will provide quality office space in a great location targeted at technology businesses looking to locate or expand into Chelan County. “This is a great opportunity to create a launching pad for new business in Chelan County. It will let companies experience all we have to offer and transition into privately owned space to make room for the next company,” stated Port Commission President Rory Turner.
"Pybus Market is full of entrepreneurs, so having a technology incubation space adjacent to the Market that attracts tech start-ups to our community is a smart use of the 2nd floor of the Annex building,” said Craig Homchick, board president of Pybus Market Charitable Foundation, the 501c(3) non-profit that oversees Pybus Market. “Leveraging Pybus Market to attract tech entrepreneurs to our community is a good economic development strategy,” added Homchick.
