The Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce is the Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO) for the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee. The DMMO focuses its efforts on marketing the local assets of Wenatchee Valley, collaborating closely with community groups and other organizations such as the Performance Arts Center, Pybus Public Market, Town Toyota Center, and the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center, to coordinate marketing and promotion of events and activities to ensure a positive visitor experience. The Visit Wenatchee brand also highlights other community assets including sport and recreational facilities.

Job profile:
The Sports Tourism Coordinator is an exempt employee who will work closely with the DMMO Director to coordinate the use of sports and recreational facilities, promote local sports/recreation opportunities, and recruit and retain sporting events in the community.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic thinking, planning, and results in directing the Wenatchee Valley Sports activities of the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce. This includes working closely with the Wenatchee Valley Sports Advisory Committee, an appointed volunteer group of local stakeholders and sports/recreation professionals.
  • Create and implement an outreach plan, to include all sports oriented recreational groups in the Wenatchee Valley, to drive non-local visitation to the community through sport tourism in order to generate economic impact that benefits the community.
  • In partnership with the Visit Wenatchee Development Management and Marketing Organization Director, the Sports Tourism Coordinator will develop a marketing and communication plan to promote Wenatchee Valley Sports activities and events utilizing the Wenatchee Valley Sports website, digital media, social media sites, and e-newsletter.
  • Manage, update, and elevate the Wenatchee Valley Sports website to be the premiere local community sports information resource for sporting event organizers, visitors, participants, and promoters.
  • Generate and maintain an inventory of existing sports and recreational assets/facilities located in the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee.
  • Coordinate group and individual sports in Wenatchee by acting as the single point of contact for operations, facilities, and services for event organizers.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the scheduling and implementation of sports events by providing necessary resources, information, and support including partnering with local agencies to support successful events.
  • Develop, compile, and maintain a resource listing of individuals, point of contacts, and group sports contacts for marketing and promoting of sports/recreation opportunities, attaining sponsorships, gathering officiating and event volunteers, and other sport-specific information.
  • Assist tournament and special sporting event directors in coordinating services, facilities, and stakeholders to implement a group or individual sports competition as requested and authorized by the Executive Director of the Chamber.
  • Know the sources of bid preparation guidelines from national, regional, and state governing bodies. Inform and present these information resources to organizations interested in bidding to host a major sports event.
  • Research and cultivate bid opportunities that utilize to the fullest extent of Wenatchee/East Wenatchee sports facilities and resources.
  • Assist local organizing groups in the presentation of bids for competition and arrange site inspections for the appropriate decision-makers.
  • Compile economic impact data based on sports activities and events in the Wenatchee Valley.
  • Submit press releases, blogs, and provide radio interviews on Wenatchee Valley Sports activities and the economic impact of those activities to the community.
  • Keep key partners updated, including but not exclusive to the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee, Chelan and Douglas Counties, Town Toyota Center, Chelan County PUD, and Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority.
  • Provide regular reporting updates to the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce Board, the Wenatchee Valley Sports Advisory Committee, East Wenatchee Events Board and City of Wenatchee Lodging Tax Advisory Committee and Tourism Promotion Area Committee.
  • Assist Executive Director in the implementation of Our Valley Our Future action items that relate to sports tourism and outdoor recreation
  • Provide reporting information on Wenatchee Valley Sports activities and economic impact to the Visit Wenatchee Marketing Coordinator, and/or the DMMO Director to assist with meeting local and state reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
  • The right candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, exceptional organizational and time management skills, be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, be customer service oriented, and be able to work as part of an internal and external team.
  • Three years professional sports tourism marketing experience is a plus. Candidate must have strong work ethic and ability to facilitate work between local jurisdictions and out of area business entities/organizations. Demonstrated proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, is required. Must be willing to work weekends and travel as necessary.
