CONTRACT RATE

$23.66 -  per hour.

JOB POSTING

JOB PURPOSE:  Provide labor support in accordance with District safety guidelines, policies and procedures individually or with the assistance of operators, mechanics, wiremen, technicians, apprentices or other assigned personnel.  Perform industrial janitorial services in the plant, Discovery Center or other locations.  Duties may include cleaning, buffing floors, washing windows, carpet cleaning, cleaning picnic shelters and restrooms, greasing, household repairs, etc., and assisting operation and maintenance crews as required.  Greet and interface with the public and provide visitors with information when required while performing regular scheduled duties.  May be required to work at other locations such as Chelan, Confluence Technology Center or Rock Island.

JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily.  Essential functions (EF) are those activities that, if not performed, would significantly and fundamentally alter the position.  Secondary functions (SF) are activities not fundamental to the job and may need to be relaxed to accommodate an otherwise qualified applicant with a disability.  In the aggregate, secondary functions typically account for less than 15% of the job scope.

  1. EF 35%  Clean and perform general housekeeping duties in the hydro facilities, Discovery Center, substations and other locations to ensure safe and sanitary conditions. Prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications. Gather and empty trash.
  2. EF 35%  Daily responsibilities include routine inspections to ensure safe and secure conditions for the District’s facilities.
  3. EF 10%  Provide labor support for projects within the Hydro support work.
  4. EF 10%  Set up and take down office materials for meetings. This includes moving office furniture (tables, chairs and museum displays).
  5. EF 10%  Drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.
  6. EF Ongoing  Maintain regular and predictable attendance.  Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.  Comply with District policies.  Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Post-Secondary Education:                     

No post-secondary education required.

Experience:                                                     

Typically requires experience working in janitorial services as well as greeting the public.  One (1) year janitorial experience in an industrial environment is preferred.  Experience working at a hydro generation facility is preferred.  

Also requires CPR Certification and valid First Aid card within six (6) months of hire.

Specific KSA's: A fully skilled incumbent will have the following specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of mathematics. 
  • Working knowledge in using cleaning solutions and handling chemicals safely and efficiently.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to get along with others
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently. 
  • Ability and safely work around noisy, rotating equipment.
  • Ability to use and store chemicals safely and efficiently.

Language Skills:                                                             

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.  Candidate must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.  Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Computers & Equipment: A fully skilled incumbent will have the ability to utilize the following software, hardware, or equipment:  To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to have basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, PeopleSoft HRIS, and be able to operate general office equipment.  The incumbent is required to operate various power equipment, such as, small hand tools, floor buffers, vacuums, floor sweepers, carpet cleaning equipment, snow removal equipment, ladders, aerial man-lifts and power washers.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: An employee may not be hired or transferred to a job, or continue in a job if currently employed, if they do not satisfy the following job requirements.  These District requirements cannot be waived by supervisors.

A valid driver's license is required at hire.  A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
