SUMMARY:Jack Nisbet: "Canoes of David Thompson"
DESCRIPTION:North West Company agent David Thompson was the first man in recorded history to travel and map the entire Columbia River. As he traveled the Columbia and its major eastern tributaries between 1807 and 1812\, Thompson saw all kinds of canoes\, from traditional fur trade birch bark through the conifer bark boats and dugouts of different tribal cultures. This slide presentation by historian-author Jack Nisbet explores what Thompson saw where\, and how he tried to incorporate styles and materials into vessels of his own design. The program is part of the David Thompson Lecture Series\, presented by the Wenatchee Row & Paddle Club and Wenatchee Valley Museum\, with support from Ballard Ambulance and Crunch Pak.
