SUMMARY:Family ArtVentures: Japanese Puppetry
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Japanese culture by creating a Bunraku-style puppet\, a form of puppetry that was an outgrowth of competing Kabuki theaters in the 1600s. This unusual technique features large puppets walking freely through the set\, with the help of human assistants\, instead of staying within the confining walls of the puppet stage. Susan Heminger will help students learn traditional Bunraku performance techniques during the workshop. The class is geared for all ages\; no experience is necessary and materials are provided. Preregister at 888-6240. The 2011-12 Family ArtVentures series is sponsored by Target and the Woods Family & Woods House Music and Arts Fund.
