Thompson was the first man in recorded history to travel the entire length of the Columbia\, stopping at native villages along the way. In June and July 2011 about 200 people in voyageur (10-person) canoes will paddle from Invermere\, B.C. to Astoria\, Oregon to commemorate this important bicentennial.
